Re: California gun questions
I can't answer your question about gun laws but my sister and her husband live in Trinity county in N. Cali and they love it. My BIL is a gun collector (hunting and handguns) and he seems to get along OK.
Were you the GIM member who was considering moving to the Verde valley in AZ? This looks interesting for N. Cali: http://www.jeffersonstate.com/ |

Yep that was me! I was just down there a few weeks ago, although gorgeous, the whole Sedona factor, and the geographic deathtrap Verde valley is in a SHTF situation (would be hard to get out of with roadblocks and no cover) I changed my mind and bought a Doomstead near Alturas CA on the same trip! |

I suggest that you check out the following BATF link - since it lists all requirements AND they are the enforcement agency for all firearms in California. Good luck (I live in California myself). http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/index.php |
Re: California gun questions
looks like the SKS stays here, the others are cool!

Re: California gun questions
You can modify your SKS to make it legal. We do have legal ones for sale in CA.
I was just looking at a 15 acre polt in Alturas today but just cannot fathom living there. I am still looking at Nevada side Sierra Mountain land for a get away but have not done enough research. Why did you pull the trigger on Alturas? |

Grab this and read through it: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/Cfl2007.pdf DON'T listen to anyone or anything else - the cops will follow what the AG's site says. |

Trinity, as well as most Northern California counties (Del Norte, Humboldt, Siskiyou, Modoc, Shasta, Mendocino, Lake, Lassen, Plumas, and a few others), are pretty liberal on the Second Amendment. The only aspect of California "liberalism" most of us can stomach! |

Yes, as I suggested earlier, use the CA-DOJ cite for "last word" on CA firearms "laws." |

Re: California gun questions
Yes being out of the way of MAJOR military movements is good but I was asking on a more practical level as he is talking about moving and living there.
So in that aspect I will re-phrase. What besides it being fairly sparse and rural made you want to move there? Are the wells and groundwater easily accessable? What agricultural resources do you have access to? I know that my uncle up in the whiskytown area has cultivated corn on his land but must use ALOT of fertilizer and added nutrients. The wildlife in Modoc is pretty darn good as that is where we bagged our largest buck ever in CA last season but I do not know how the wildlife is in Alturas area in particular. ETC ETC ETC. |
Re: California gun questions
I see our folks here are taking this thread where I was thinking about taking it.
Location, location, location. Best of luck. NoCal is nice.....'cept for those silly laws. |

Re: California gun questions
all your assault weapons will need a Bullet button instead of your mag releases that is on it
(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following: a) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon. b) A thumbhole stock. c) A folding or telescoping stock. d) A grenade or flare launcher. e) A flash suppressor. f) A forward pistol grip. OR (2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more then ten rounds. OR (3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches. A rifle equipped with a Bullet Button cant fall under Penal Code Section 12276.1(a)(1) because it no longer has a detachable magazine. However, Penal Code Section 12276.1(a)(2) does apply to a rifle equipped with a Bullet Button if it has a magazine installed that can hold more than 10 rounds. |
